Traumatic Flashbacks: The issue opens with a haunting recollection of the events from Batman: The Killing Joke, establishing why Gordon is personally driven to find and potentially kill the Joker.

Face-to-Face: Gordon successfully tracks the Joker to a private mansion. In a shocking confrontation, he comes face-to-face with the villain, only to be surrounded by the Joker's armed guards.

The Twist: The Joker reveals he was framed for the "A-Day" attack on Arkham Asylum and warns Gordon that multiple dangerous factions—including the Sampson family and a new female version of Bane named Vengeance—are also closing in to kill him.
