The New Invaders # 0 2004 is the prologue to a 10-issue series that reimagines the classic World War II team for the modern day. Released in July 2004, it serves as "Part 4" of the Once an Invader story arc, continuing directly from the events of Avengers #82–84. 

The issue focuses on the tension between the newly formed Invaders and the Avengers following a controversial regime change in the nation of Mazikhandar. 

  • The Conflict: The Avengers confront the new team over their aggressive tactics. This leads to a skirmish where the teams fight until Namor arrives to announce that Mazikhandar is now an Atlantean protectorate.
  • Secret Origins: It is revealed that the team was secretly orchestrated by Dell Rusk (then-U.S. Secretary of Defense), who is actually the Red Skull in disguise.
  • Thin Man's Role: The ageless hero Thin Man is shown manipulating events from the This modern iteration of the Invaders consists of a mix of Golden Age veterans and new characters:
  • U.S. Agent (John Walker): The team's field leader, wearing a Captain America-inspired costume.
  • Namor the Sub-Mariner: The original Invader, acting as a sovereign power.
  • Thin Man (Bruce Dickson): An ageless master spy and original WWII-era hero.
  • Blazing Skull (Mark Todd): A hero with a healing factor and pyrokinetic abilities who has become mentally unstable over time.
  • Spitfire (Jacqueline Falsworth): The original British speedster.
  • Union Jack (Joey Chapman): The modern successor to the British hero mantle.
  • Tara: A new female hero with fire powers, later revealed to be an android.
