The OMAC Project # 1 2005 NM-

The OMAC Project # 1 April 20, 2005 (of 6) is a critical chapter in the buildup to the Infinite Crisis event. It picks up immediately after the shocking conclusion of the Countdown to Infinite Crisis one-shot.

The issue follows the immediate aftermath of Maxwell Lord murdering the Blue Beetle (Ted Kord). 

• The Execution: Maxwell Lord is revealed as the "Black King" of the superspy organization Checkmate. He orders his agents, including Sasha Bordeaux, to dispose of Blue Beetle's body and destroy his equipment.
• Brother Eye: Lord has usurped control of Brother Eye, an orbital surveillance satellite originally built by Batman to monitor the Justice League.
• OMAC Units: Lord activates the OMACs (now standing for Observational Metahuman Activity Construct), transforming thousands of sleeper agents across the globe into powerful cyborgs tasked with eliminating metahumans. 

• First Appearance: Marks the first modern appearance of the OMACs as "Observational Metahuman Activity Constructs," a departure from Jack Kirby's original 1974 concept.
• Checkmate Agents: Introduces several new Checkmate knights, including Arthur Kendrick, Graziella Raza, and Isobel Sanchez.
