The Savage She-Hulk # 9 VF+ 1980

The Savage She-Hulk # 9, published by Marvel Comics in October 1980 (released in July 1980), is titled "The Power of the Word!" and introduces the new villains Ultima and The Word. The issue also introduces a serious new health threat for Jennifer Walters. 

"The Power of the Word!" 

The story is part one of a two-part arc and begins with Jennifer Walters having landed in Los Angeles and reuniting with her friend Zapper. 

• The Case: Jennifer takes on the case of a missing person who appears to have been brainwashed by a cult leader known as The Word (Jack Wordman).å
• A New Foe: Jennifer's investigation leads her to confront Ultima (Ultima Wordman), The Word's daughter, a powerful woman whose strength rivals that of She-Hulk.
• The Battle: In the confrontation, Jennifer transforms into She-Hulk to fight Ultima, who is surprised to discover the woman she captured is not just a regular person. She-Hulk manages to escape the compound with key evidence.
• A Dire Diagnosis: In a parallel development, Zapper analyzes a blood sample from Jennifer and discovers a dangerous, potentially fatal degenerative disease in her bloodstream that requires immediate treatment.
• Internal Struggle: Throughout the issue, Jennifer finds herself struggling to control her "savage" side, feeling increasingly angry and losing control over her transformations and temper, a theme that continues to develop in the series.
