The Thing # 16, published by Marvel Comics in October 1984, is a continuation of Ben Grimm's solo cosmic adventures after the events of Secret Wars. The story is titled "One Thing Leads to Another!" and is the sixth part of the "Rocky Grimm, Space Ranger" storyline.
"One Thing Leads to Another!"
This issue takes place on Battleworld, the planet created by the Beyonder during the Secret Wars event, where Ben Grimm decided to stay behind after discovering he could turn back into his human form at will.
- Subterranean Encounter: A crevasse suddenly opens up and swallows Ben, leading him into a subterranean village inhabited by a race of "Things" who resemble his own rocky form.
- Tarianna's Search: Meanwhile, the she-warrior Tarianna, an image of Ben's ideal woman as later revealed in the series, continues her search for the "strange Earthman" who has captured her heart.
- The Cloaked Man: A mysterious cloaked man begins causing earthquakes and other dangers within the "Things" village. Ben attempts to stop him, but the figure disappears in a puff of smoke.
- Escape and Discovery: Ben is released by the "Things" when they realize he is not responsible for the recent dangers. On his way out of the tunnels, Ben discovers that his ability to change back into his human form has returned. The issue ends with the cloaked figure capturing Tarianna, revealing the menace is far from over.
