The Uncanny X-Men # 300 1993 NM-

The Uncanny X-Men # 300, published in May 1993, is an anniversary issue that features an all-out battle between the X-Men and the Acolytes, the return of Nightcrawler, and the tragic first appearance of the lethal Legacy Virus.

The story, written by Scott Lobdell with art by John Romita Jr., serves as a prelude to the "Fatal Attractions" storyline. 

• Moira MacTaggert Captured: The Acolytes, led by Fabian Cortez, have captured Moira MacTaggert, hoping to extract information about the genetic manipulation technique she used on the infant Magneto. They use an Acolyte named Milan to project her thoughts visually.
• Nightcrawler's Return: Nightcrawler arrives at the X-Mansion at Professor Xavier's request and is equipped by Forge with a booster unit for Cerebro to locate the Acolytes' base, an island fortress in France.
• The Battle: The X-Men (Gold Team, plus Nightcrawler and Bishop) assault the Acolytes' fortress to rescue Moira. A fierce battle ensues, with the X-Men facing off against the various Acolytes.
• Cortez's Exposure: The young Acolyte Neophyte overhears Cortez admit that he murdered Magneto (or so he thought at the time) for "points" in the Upstarts game. Disillusioned, Neophyte helps the X-Men and ultimately chooses to leave the Acolytes and walk his own path. Wolverine skewers Cortez during the fight, though he is later rescued from the hospital by Acolyte Amelia Voght.
• The Legacy Virus Revealed: In the emotional epilogue, Professor Xavier and Moira MacTaggert discover that the new disease plaguing mutants in Genosha is terminal. Xavier realizes that the disease was created by Stryfe, and in the final panel, Colossus's young sister, Illyana Rasputina (Magik), is revealed to be a victim of the fatal Legacy Virus.
