The Vigil # 1 2023 NM

The Vigil # 1, released on May 16, 2023, is the debut of a six-issue miniseries written by Ram V with art by Lalit Kumar Sharma. Part of DC’s We Are Legends initiative, it introduces a mysterious South Asian superteam that operates in the shadows to stop weaponized illegal technology and state-sponsored metahuman research. 

The issue follows a clandestine mission in the Strait of Malacca where pirates have hijacked a shipping vessel, the Eastwind, loaded with advanced technical equipment. 

• The Mission: While the pirates hold the crew hostage, members of The Vigil intervene with superhuman efficiency. They neutralize the threat and retrieve secret LexCorp cargo hidden on board.
• A "Selective" Rescue: The team successfully takes out the pirates but leaves the crew to fend for themselves after securing the cargo, establishing their reputation as rogue agents who care more about their specific mission than traditional heroics.
• The Liaison: The story introduces Nia Saha, a former field agent assigned by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Mumbai to act as a liaison for the team. She reports to a mysterious benefactor known as Mr. Lightless. 

The team consists of individuals who were given powers they didn't want, often resulting from traumatic or failed government experiments. 

• Arclight (Aqib Khan): A former major who wields electromagnetic powers.
• Saya: A shapeshifter with a featureless mask who can change her appearance at will.
• Dodge (Dinah Kom): Possesses superhuman reflexes, enabling her to dodge bullets.
• Castle: The team's tactical "guy in the chair" who is described as being ten steps ahead of everyone else. 
• Creative Team: Written by Ram V, illustrated by Lalit Kumar Sharma, and colored by Rain Beredo.
