The Vision and the Scarlet Witch # 1, published in October 1985, is the first issue of a 12-issue maxi-series, written by Steve Englehart with art by Richard Howell. Titled "Lovers and Zombies!", the story picks up after the Vision's attempt to take over the world and focuses on the couple starting a new, quiet life in a New Jersey suburb.
The issue begins with the Vision being interrogated by government official Henry Peter Gyrich at Project Pegasus about his recent world domination attempt. Frustrated, the Scarlet Witch eventually storms in and breaks her husband out of the questioning.
The couple returns to the suburban town of Leonia, New Jersey, and buys a new house, intending to live a normal life away from the Avengers. However, their attempt at domestic bliss is immediately interrupted when they are attacked in their backyard by the zombies of the Black Talon, a voodoo-practicing villain.
Wanda and Vision fight off the zombies, only to discover that the attack is part of a larger plot involving the villains Nekra and the Grim Reaper (the Vision's "brother," Eric Williams). The story concludes with the Vision discovering a body resembling a pre-Wonder Man Simon Williams (the Grim Reaper's brother) and a cliffhanger that ties directly into the West Coast Avengers #2 comic, forcing the couple back into action with their former teammates.
