Thor Corps # 1 (1993), written by Tom DeFalco with art by Pat Olliffe, is the first issue of a four-part limited series that brings together three hammer-wielding heroes from different realities to face a cosmic-level threat.
- A Gathering of Heroes: The story begins with the future Thor, Dargo Ktor (from the 26th century), being tricked by his arch-foe, the scientist Demonstaff, into traveling back in time to the modern era.
- Initial Clash: Demonstaff's plot is to pit Dargo against the contemporary Thor, who at the time was Eric Masterson (also known as Thunderstrike). The two heroes initially clash in the modern day, with their powerful hammers creating a massive disturbance.
- Beta Ray Bill Intervenes: The fighting inadvertently attracts a third hammer-wielder, the Korbinite alien Beta Ray Bill, who arrives and puts an end to the senseless violence.
- Forming the Corps: The three heroes (who would later be joined by the original Thor, making them four) realize their simultaneous presence is a danger to their respective timelines and dimensions.
- The Mission: Demonstaff then appears, revealing his plan and demanding the heroes help him rescue his wife, Ellene, who is trapped in another dimension. The trio unites to form the Thor Corps and embarks on a multi-dimensional quest to confront this new, reality-threatening foe.
The issue sets up the premise of the limited series, uniting these powerful, hammer-wielding characters for a cosmic adventure that spans across time and reality.
