Tribe # 1 1993 NM

Tribe # 1, released in March 1993, is the premiere issue of an independent superhero comic published by Image Comics. Created by Todd Johnson (writer) and Larry Stroman (artist), it achieved historic sales, selling over a million copies and becoming the best-selling African-American comic from African-American creators of all time. 

The series is based around the adventures of a predominantly African-American superhero team operating out of Brooklyn, New York. 

• Recruitment: The story begins with the team leader, Blindspot, and a member named Hannibal, who rescue a young illusionist named Alexander Collins from thugs hired by the villainous organization, Europan.
• The Conflict: The team's main antagonists are a conglomerate of European and Japanese techno-pirates known as Europan, led by the power-hungry "Lord Deus". Europan is actively working to capture or recruit individuals with powers.
• Team Introduction: The issue introduces readers to the core team members, including Front (Alexander Collins' superhero identity), who can create powerful illusions, and hints at the wider conflict the team will face.
