Ultimate X-Men Annual # 1 2005 VF+

Ultimate X-Men Annual # 1 (2005) features a self-contained story about Rogue and Gambit on a heist, which is interrupted by the Juggernaut, and concludes with a significant, permanent change to their status quo in the Ultimate Universe. 

Story Synopsis: "Ultimate Sacrifice"

The story is set in Las Vegas and centers on Rogue and Gambit, who have become a pair of thieves. They are attempting to steal the Gem of Cyttorak when the Juggernaut, a former associate of Rogue who is still in love with her, crashes the scene, intending to take her away with him. 

A fierce battle ensues between Gambit and Juggernaut. Despite Rogue's attempts to help, Juggernaut proves nearly unstoppable. The conflict ultimately results in both Gambit's and Juggernaut's apparent deaths. Before Gambit dies, he shares a final kiss with Rogue, who absorbs his powers and memories, a change that permanently alters her character dynamic in the Ultimate continuity. Rogue then contacts the X-Men, informing them she will be going her own way for a while.
