Unstoppable Doom Patrol # 1 2023 NM-

Unstoppable Doom Patrol # 1 was released on March 28, 2023, as part of DC Comics' "Dawn of DC" initiative. The issue marks the team's return to the main DC Universe and a new mission to help the recent surge of metahumans. 

"Degenerates One and All"

Following the events of Lazarus Planet, which caused a massive, worldwide activation of metagenes, the world is full of new, misunderstood "monsters". The Doom Patrol's new mission is to save these misfits from a fearful society that sees them as weapons or test subjects. 

• Gotham Mission: The team rolls into Gotham City to rescue "Subject 99," an unstable new metahuman being experimented on by a biotech company called Metagen Inc..
• The Conflict: The rescue operation causes chaos and attracts the attention of Batman and Robin (Tim Drake), leading to a clash of ideologies where Batman wants to contain the situation his way, and the Doom Patrol insists on "saving the monster".
• Backup Story: A secondary plot follows Monsieur Mallah and the Brain, who are having a violent lovers' quarrel while trying to steal something from their old enemy, General Immortus. The Brain is seemingly destroyed in a twist of betrayal at the end of the backup story.
• The Twist: A stinger at the end of the main story reveals that Peacemaker is secretly plotting against the team. 

The "Unstoppable" iteration of the team features new members and a new leader: 

• The Chief: A mysterious new alter of Kay Challis (Crazy Jane) takes command of the team.
• Robotman (Cliff Steele)
• Elasti-Woman (Rita Farr)
• Negative Man (Larry Trainor)
• Beast Girl (Kareli): A new, purple-furred character who can manipulate "fight or flight" responses in others.
• Degenerate (Maurice): The metahuman "Subject 99" that the team rescues and recruits during the issue.
