Vision and the Scarlet Witch # 1 November 1982 (titled "Trick or Treat!") is the debut of a four-issue limited series written by Bill Mantlo with art by Rick Leonardi.

The issue follows the Vision and Wanda Maximoff as they retire from the Avengers to start a civilian life together in the suburbs of Leonia, New Jersey.

  • The Housewarming Gift: Their first night in the new home falls on Halloween. Their friend and former butler, Jarvis, arrives to help them settle in and delivers a housewarming gift from Captain America: an ancient Druidic tome.
  • The Escape of Samhain: The book contains the trapped spirit of Samhain, the eternal embodiment of Halloween. Drawn to Wanda's magical energy, Samhain escapes the book and possesses three neighborhood children—dressed as a jack-o'-lantern, a goblin, and a ghost—to attack the Vision and Jarvis.
  • The Resolution: While the Vision battles the possessed children, Wanda confronts Samhain. She eventually defeats the spirit by using her hex powers to fling the Druidic tome into her fireplace, banishing him back into the book as it burns.
  • Robert Frank (The Whizzer): The issue ends with a shocking arrival at their door by the Golden Age hero Robert Frank, who at the time was believed to be Wanda's biological father.
  • Relationship Dynamic: The series explores the challenges of a "human-android" marriage, contrasting Wanda's "hot-blooded" nature with the Vision's calculating, literal personality.
