What If? # 50 (Volume 2, June 1993) explores the timeline "What If the Hulk Had Killed Wolverine?". The double-sized issue, featuring a special silver foil embossed cover, reimagines the events of Incredible Hulk #340 and the X-Men "Fall of the Mutants" storyline.
In this alternate reality, during their iconic battle, an enraged Hulk manages the impossible by killing Wolverine.
- The Killing Blow: Instead of the fight ending as it did in original continuity, Hulk kills Wolverine by severing his spinal cord.
- The Adversary's Move: Wolverine's absence causes the cosmic entity known as the Adversary to strike early in Dallas. Several X-Men, including Longshot, Dazzler, and Madelyne Pryor, are killed in the initial onslaught.
- Heroic Confrontation: The surviving X-Men and the government team Freedom Force attempt to fight both the rampaging Hulk and the Adversary. Hulk brutally kills several members of Freedom Force, including Avalanche, Blob, Pyro, and Super Sabre.
- The Resolution: The Hulk eventually helps Storm and Forge reveal the Adversary's true form. Forge is forced to sacrifice his own life force to banish the entity. The story concludes with the Hulk reverting to Bruce Banner and being placed in government custody.
