WildC.A.T.s: Covert Action Teams #1, published by Image Comics in August 1992, is the flagship debut of Jim Lee’s first creator-owned series. It introduced a team of elite warriors caught in a hidden, millennia-old war between two alien races: the noble Kherubim and the parasitic Daemonites.
Story Synopsis: "Resurrection Day"
The issue, titled "Resurrection Day!," establishes the team's origins and their immediate mission.
- The Leader's Awakening: The story reveals that Jacob Marlowe, a billionaire CEO of Halo Incorporated, was once a homeless man who discovered he was an immortal Kherubim warlord known as Lord Emp.
- The Mission: Guided by the precognitive Void, Marlowe assembles the WildC.A.T.s to stop the Daemonite Cabal from finding a "Gifted One" with the power to expose their hidden presence among humans.
- The Conflict: The search leads them to a strip club called the Hot Spot, where they find Voodoo, the gifted one they seek. A massive battle ensues between the WildC.A.T.s and Daemonite agents, ending in an explosion that levels the club.
- The Antagonist: The issue introduces Helspont, the powerful Daemonite leader who is manipulating global events from his submersible ship.
