Wonder Man # 5 is a Marvel comic book published in October 1991 (with a January 1992 cover date) that is part of the first ongoing Wonder Man series. The issue features Simon Williams dealing with the villain Rampage and his Recession Raiders. 

The main story, titled "Tough Times," written by Gerard Jones, sees Simon Williams (Wonder Man) in Los Angeles continuing his pursuit of an acting career while dealing with his superhero responsibilities. 

  • Rampage's Attack: Disgruntled inventor Stuart Clarke, blaming the U.S. economy for the failure of his company, dons his powerful armored suit and attacks the Pactech building as the villain Rampage.
  • Wonder Man and Beast Intervene: Simon Williams and fellow Avenger Hank McCoy (Beast), who is currently living in Los Angeles, overhear news of the attack while at a restaurant. They quickly respond to the scene.
  • The Battle: Beast distracts Rampage, while Wonder Man helps with the falling debris. The fight escalates to a rooftop where Wonder Man initially knocks down Rampage. However, Rampage returns with a squad of men wearing identical armor, calling themselves the Recession Raiders.
  • The Outcome: Beast is knocked out during the skirmish, and Rampage and his crew escape, leaving Wonder Man to deal with the aftermath and a temporarily defeated teammate.
