World War Hulks: Captain America vs. Wolverine # 1 was published by Marvel Comics on July 14, 2010. It is the first half of a two-issue miniseries that tie into the "World War Hulks" event, where various heroes are transformed into savage, gamma-irradiated versions of themselves by the Intelligencia. 

The story, titled "Captain America vs. Wolverine (Part 1)," focuses on the brutal conflict between a "hulked-out" Wolverine and Bucky Barnes, who was the active Captain America at the time. 

• The Present Conflict: Transformed into mindless killers by Doc Samson's "Cathexis ray," the two veterans drop from the Intelligencia's Helicarrier and engage in a destructive battle through the streets of Washington, D.C.. Wolverine’s healing factor allows him to maintain a sliver of sanity as he struggles to control his overwhelming rage.
• Historical Flashback: As they fight, Wolverine reflects on his 70-year history with Bucky, dating back to their time as allies in World War II. He specifically recalls a post-war incident in Chicago where he and a partner named Squee were captured and tortured by a mysterious woman named Abeline. During this torture, Logan detected a scent he didn't recognize as Bucky's because he believed Bucky was dead; he later realizes it was the Winter Soldier.
• Backup Story: The issue also includes a separate story, "Pulsar vs. War Machine," featuring a hulked-out Monica Rambeau battling other irradiated heroes like War Machine, Ms. Marvel, and the Thing.
