World War Hulks: Spider-Man vs. Thor # 1 published in September 2010, is the first part of a two-issue tie-in to the "World War Hulks" event. The issue follows major Marvel heroes who have been transformed into savage, "hulked-out" versions of themselves by a gamma radiation blast from the villainous Intelligencia.
The story, titled "Personal Wreckage Part 1," centers on the chaotic interaction between the transformed Thorr (Hulk-Thor) and Spider-Thing (Spider-Hulk) in Washington, D.C..
- The Conflict: After crashing near the National Mall, Thorr attempts to rally Spider-Thing to fight rampaging A.I. Marines. However, the confused Spider-Thing is distracted by the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, leading him to abandon the fight and enter the museum.
- Parallel Flashbacks: The narrative interweaves the modern-day struggle with childhood memories from both heroes. Peter Parker recalls being bullied on a school trip to the Smithsonian, while Thor remembers being abandoned by Loki during a wrestling game in Asgard.
- The Confrontation: Enraged by being abandoned again, Thorr pursues Spider-Thing into the museum and threatens to destroy the dinosaur exhibits to force him to fight, leading the two allies to clash in a brutal brawl.
- Backup Story: The issue also features a separate narrative following Hulklops (Cyclops) and Icehulk (Iceman), who engage in a physical fight over their long-standing personality differences.
- Writers: Kieron Gillen (Spider-Man vs. Thor) and Chris Eliopoulos (X-Men backup).
- Artists: Jorge Molina (Spider-Man vs. Thor) and Patrick Scherberger (X-Men backup).
- Cover Artist: Barry Kitson.
