X-Factor # 54, published by Marvel Comics in May 1990, is a key issue in the "Days of Future Present" crossover and is notable for the first appearance of Franklin Richards (the adult version from the future) in the main timeline.

"Games People Play"

The story is the second part of a storyline where the adult Franklin Richards travels back in time from the "Days of Future Past" timeline.

  • The Adult Franklin: A powerful, amnesiac man (later revealed as an adult Franklin Richards) appears in New York City. His reality-warping powers are unstable, causing him to unintentionally manifest his childhood dreams and nightmares into the real world.
  • The Confrontation: X-Factor (the original five X-Men: Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman, Archangel, and Beast) attempts to contain him. The battle is intense because Franklin’s powers are nearly god-like, making him a "living wild card."
  • Ahab's Introduction: The issue also features the arrival of Ahab, the terrifying "Hound-master" from the future who has come to retrieve Franklin. Ahab is a cybernetic hunter who turns mutants into "Hounds" to track their own kind.
  • The Fantastic Four Connection: Since this is Franklin Richards, members of the Fantastic Four (including the young Franklin’s parents, Reed and Sue) arrive to help, leading to a massive team-up between the two legendary groups.
  • Writer: Louise Simonson
  • Artist: Jon Bogdanove
  • Inker: Al Milgrom
  • Publisher: Marvel Comics
  • This issue is considered a minor key due to the first appearance of the adult Franklin Richards and the villain Ahab.
