X-Force # 4 1991 VF

X-Force # 4, published by Marvel Comics in September 1991 (with a November 1991 cover date), is titled "Under the Knife" and continues the new team's confrontation with the villainous External known as Gideon. 

"Under the Knife" 

The story picks up immediately after Gideon severely injures the team member Sunspot (Roberto Da Costa) in a prior issue. 

• Sunspot in Danger: The main focus of the issue is the medical emergency. The team rushes Sunspot to a hospital in critical condition after Gideon's attack.
• A Father's Grief: Sunspot's wealthy and influential father, Mr. Da Costa, arrives at the hospital, extremely concerned for his son's life and skeptical of X-Force's involvement.
• Cable's Suspicion: The team leader, Cable, is suspicious that Gideon has manipulated events to target Roberto specifically. He leaves the rest of the team to guard the hospital while he secretly follows a lead regarding the villain.
• A Hint of the Future: The issue provides background information on the concept of "Externals," a group of immortal mutants (including Gideon) that will play a major role in future X-Force storylines. The narrative builds tension as the team waits anxiously for Sunspot's prognosis.
