X-Men: The Early Years # 1 (1994) is a reprint of the very first X-Men story originally published in X-Men #1 (September 1963), detailing the first assembly of the team and their initial confrontation with Magneto. The issue was published to showcase the origins of the characters to a modern audience.
Story Synopsis: "X-Men"
Professor Charles Xavier has gathered four teenage mutants—Cyclops, Beast, Angel, and Iceman—at his New York mansion to train them to use their powers for the protection of a world that fears them. The issue begins with a training session and the introduction of a new student, the telekinetic Jean Grey (also known as Marvel Girl), the team's first female member.
The team is quickly sent on their first mission when the villainous Magneto, the self-proclaimed "Master of Magnetism," takes over a military base at Cape Citadel and launches a missile. The X-Men work together to neutralize the threat and save the day, demonstrating their teamwork under fire. Magneto escapes, but the X-Men prove their capability as a team.
