Dark Knight III: The Master Race # 9 2017 NM

Dark Knight III: The Master Race # 9, published by DC Comics on June 7, 2017, is the final chapter of the nine-issue limited series. The story concludes the war against the Kandorian Kryptonian army and establishes a new status quo for the future of Earth-31. 

• The Final Assault: As Quar's army attempts a final conquest of Earth, Batman and a newly rejuvenated, younger Superman lead the resistance. Batman utilizes tactical callbacks to his early career, such as unleashing a swarm of millions of bats to confuse the Kryptonians, causing them to injure each other in a panic.
• Superman's True Power: Superman takes the lead in the final fight, revealing that he has been holding back his true fighting ability for years. He systematically dismantles the younger Kandorians using his superior combat experience.
• The Atom's Intervention: When the defeated Kryptonians attempt to detonate themselves to destroy the planet, Ray Palmer (The Atom) uses technology to shrink them down, negating their nuclear explosions into the equivalent of "firecrackers".
• The Fate of Quar: The villainous leader Quar is seized by Superman’s daughter, Lara, and thrown into the Sun, where he detonates.
• New Status Quo: The series ends with a hopeful vision for the future. Two months later, Carrie Kelley has modified her costume and officially takes on the mantle of Batwoman, with Batman treating her as a full equal rather than a sidekick.

Key Debut and Character Status 

• While Dark Knight III: The Master Race #9 focuses primarily on concluding the series' major plot threads, it features the definitive first appearance of Carrie Kelley as the new Batwoman of the Earth-31 universe. Carrie Kelley as Batwoman: In the epilogue set two months after the final battle, Carrie modifies her costume and officially takes on the mantle of Batwoman. She is established as Batman's full equal in this new status quo rather than just a sidekick.
• The "Golden Child" (Jonathan Kent): While young Jonathan Kent (the son of Superman and Wonder Woman) is briefly featured as a secret weapon or infant in earlier issues of the series, this finale sets the stage for his more prominent role in the follow-up one-shot, Batman: The Dark Knight: The Golden Child.
