BattleBuddyComics.com Pedigree
Graded comics are comic books that have been assessed for their condition and authenticity by a professional, independent third-party company. The comic is then assigned a numerical grade and encapsulated in a tamper-evident, archival-quality plastic holder, often referred to as a "slab".
The primary reasons collectors get comics graded are:
- Authentication and Value: A professional grade removes subjectivity and provides assurance to buyers and sellers about the comic's condition, which significantly impacts its market value.
- Preservation: The "slab" protects the comic from environmental damage and further degradation, preserving its condition over time.
- Authentication of Signatures: Grading companies often offer witnessed signature services, where a representative verifies an autograph at the time of signing, adding value and certainty to the signature's authenticity.
- Display: The encapsulated case allows for easy and attractive display of the collectible. Graded comic books look sick on your wall or displayed on your desk.
The Grading Scale
Professional grading companies like Certified Guaranty Company (CGC), Comic Book Certification Service (CBCS), and Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) use a universal 10-point scale, ranging from 0.5 (Poor) to 10.0 (Gem Mint).
