An incentive variant (or ratio variant) is a special comic book cover that comic book publishers offer to retailers based on how many copies of the standard (Cover A) issue they order.
How Ratios Work
- The Ratio: Expressed as numbers like 1:10, 1:25, 1:50, or 1:100.
- The Rule: For every set number of regular copies a shop orders, they earn the right to buy or receive one copy of the incentive variant. For example, a 1:25 variant means a shop must order 25 regular copies of the issue to qualify for 1 copy of that specific variant.
- Content: The interior story and pages are identical to the standard version; only the cover art (often by a high-profile or fan-favorite artist) differs.
